"Thank you so much! It was great! We had a blast! The weather was perfect…."
Did you hear the last one, that the weather was perfect? Well against all weather watchers and despite the rain clouds which hovered over the island; beside a few minutes of drizzle the frightening forecast was proven wrong. the trip went according to plan.
What we gained from the forecast was empty beaches along the bike trail… v'dal.
It wasn't hot so there wasn't much sweat and the Bochurim drove their bikes for hours some accumulating 35 miles!
Well let's not jump the gun. The day started at 5:45, as I woke up I still heard the winds howling and the rain hitting the air-conditioner, but as I stepped out for Mikva the rain ceased. Miracle number one.
Shacharis at 6:30, breakfast and then to the buses. At 10:45 the ship left the harbor of cape-cod on her way to Martha's vineyard.
On the boat the Bochurim learned sichos and Chitas. Thanx to Shmuel Neuman.
After 45 minutes of learning and wave watching, we walked on to the island. Two minute walk to the bike rental, where each boy was fitted with a bike tailored for his height.
From 12:15 until 6:15 the Bochurim split into groups of six, and each went on their own trek around the vineyard.
Driving along side two beaches from the right and left and taking in the fresh air and wind smashing across the face, the smiles grew wider by the moment.
For the few who bikes wasn't their cup of tea, the staff gave them their own fun, first they rented a pt-cruiser and drove around the island, and then it was on a moped. No one was left out of the experience.
6:15 the boys were back after seeing the mills and towns they walked on the boat. The fun didn't stop here, with many left over tuna sandwiches (prepared by the dedicated staff at 1 am, the Bochurim started feeding the birds. One bird caught his sandwich in mid-air!
To the bus they went where they were treated with salami sandwiches, peaches and a 20 oz bottle of coke for each bochur. Everything is important.
Back at nine, we went straight to Maariv, from there to a surprise hot supper of chcken and potatoes. A SPEACIAL THANX TO THE COOK HATOMIM YISROEL TURK. Don't forget the tips… light's out is 11:30, tomorrow everyone will be Charlie-horse, but for the meanwhile they are happy. That's what we learn about children: one day at a time.
